So what's this whole trip about? Well, the short version is that we are going to spend several months traveling across the USA in a travel trailer while working remotely. We plan to document our trip for several reasons: so our friends and family can keep up with what/how we're doing, so we can look back on this ourselves in a few years, and so others thinking about doing a similar trip can avoid whatever mistakes we're sure to make along the way.
We first got the crazy idea to go on the road for half a year while vacationing in Iceland in the summer of 2021. We spent 10 days doing a tour of the country, driving the Ring Road in a camper van (by the way, that is a trip that we cannot recommend heavily enough). During one of the driving segments near the end of the trip, we discussed how great it was and the idea of a similar but scaled-up trip in the USA was born. We had access to a travel trailer that's been parked at Shawn's parents' pond for several years but only used during the summer months. Once they graciously agreed to let us borrow it for the fall-spring, we started actual planning.

Shawn is an aerospace software engineer, Bryn works as a risk engineer in property insurance, and Percy is a 3lb. Polish rabbit. We're all Boston based and we're about to spend several months living in a 35x8 foot travel trailer.
We will probably have future posts dedicated specifically to most or all of the following points, but here's a summary of the major points of our plan:
- We are leaving New England approximately Labor Day 2022 and doing a slow counter-clockwise loop of the US, heading west across the northern side of the country, then down the West Coast, through the South West, and then heading back north to the mountain states for ski season (weather pending).
- We'll be using a pick-up truck to tow the camper, enabling us to detach it after we're at a site and have a (relatively) smaller and more efficient vehicle for city visits.
- Our travel trailer is a 2009 Cherokee 30L. This has one bedroom and one slide out.
- We're going to work remotely throughout the trip, relying on Starlink's RV package as our primary source of internet.
- Our route is going to be largely flexible, adjusting to visits from friends/families as well as how much we like our current stop.
- Percy will be free range throughout the camper, as he is in our apartment. He will definitely be mad it's not as spacious as our apartment.
- We're going to try to keep up with our usual hobbies like hiking, rowing, board gaming, disc golf, and skiing/snowboarding.
